After graduating from the Maryland Institute, College of Art with a B.F.A. in Illustration, he worked for a few years in the print design industry, wrestling with Quark and high-resolution images until falling in love with the web in 1997. He has worked as a designer for several Baltimore firms, a webmaster for Cidera, Inc, and as a senior designer at the Supon Design Group in Washington, D.C. He also co-founded Greycube, a web consulting firm, in 1999, specializing in custom design, programming, and hosting solutions, for a regional client base in the D.C. Metro area.
His interest in user interface design brought him to the game industry, where he worked as a 3D artist and UI designer for Breakaway Games, helping build several strategy, simulation, and city-building titles. "There are a lot of similarities between game design and web design, especially in simulation games. How does the user get to the information they need as quickly and easily as possible? How do they dig deeply into the game and get back out? And, most importantly, how can we make that look good?"
For three years he ran an independent web consultancy for a national client list, including Hanley Wood, Sputnik, TalkPlus, and Electrograph.
His editorial illustration has been published in the Baltimore Sun, the Washington Post, the LA Times Magazine, Style Magazine, and the Detroit Free Press. He still begins each design with sketchbook, pencil, and eraser.
